Athlete Training: 5 Essential Components to Success

By Nick Vujnich

The reason why athlete training is of immense importance is because it prepares the players to have competitive advantage over their competitors. An ideal training program is mapped out to involve four key areas of athlete's performance. The focus of training program is on agility, endurance, power and speed. A professional trainer works out routines and exercise sessions for the athlete and makes use of five important components to ensure proper and result oriented training. Lifting, running, stretching, eating, and recovering is the major focus area for most training regimes.

Weight training is the initial component of athletic training program. It helps developing athlete endurance, power, and helps to enhance performance. Muscular potency and body strength determines the overall performance of the athlete. As oppose to a regular person, a professional athlete must develop immense body strength. The strength is required to make professional run and attain higher speed and agility. Those athletes who lack muscular strength are less likely to beat competition in running and qualify for sports running.

The competition must be analyzed and proper work out plans should be formulated to ensure an athlete superior physical agility and stamina during competition. Running is the key component of any athlete training program as it works on the overall fitness of the athlete and only those athletes who can run well can make the most out of their sporting event. Scientifically, slow pace running over a long distance makes the muscles reacts gradually. For actual competition the athlete must have enhanced speed and agility and therefore a better running routine is the one which is faster and more demanding. An ideal running program makes the body work out in small movements and include basics movements such as changing directions and jumping.

The athlete training program also focuses on flexibility and exercises are designed to increase flexibility in the athlete. In most sports, athletes tend to get too rigid and lack the speed and mobility to have a trouble free full- range of motion. If the body is stiff, the athletes are not able to generate the required strength. Having a better range of motion is important for the athlete as it is required to produce high power during the movement phase. The three powerful techniques to ensure optimum flexibility are: active-isolated flexibility, functional mobility and energetic warm-up routines. Those athletes working out using these three exercises practices are likely to quickly enhance mobility and the ability to use complete movement for every muscular grouping.

Good athlete training would also comprise of the topic sports nutrition because this would provide the energy required by players for the purpose of performing well in the actual event, practices as well as work-out regimes. An individual's diet can affect the amount of energy or fuel in his/her body. If you do not provide your body with sufficient nutrition then your body would not be able to keep up with rigorous athlete-training program and the essential nutrients in one's body would be replaced in a short period of time. Therefore only a good athlete-training program would educate the athlete or player on topics like dietary supplements, a balanced diet, etc for improving his/her performance in sports.

An athlete training is incomplete without following a proper nutrition plan. Proper nutrition serves as a fuel for a player and keeps an athlete full of energy and power. The eating routine is worked out in accordance to the athlete physical requirements and the intensity of physical exercise. Those athletes who follow a well defined nutrition plan work out better with smaller break periods during exercises. The nutrition plan follows a complete diet plan for the athlete and includes the necessary supplements needed to keep an athlete energy level up. If proper diet plan is not followed an athlete training program will not work out. The nutrition determines the overall performance of athlete and the ability to go through training routine. When proper diet plan is followed the athletes quickly adopt to the training regime without fatigue as the body is getting the required get-up-and-go power from the nourishing food.

In order to overpower the competition out on the field, a player must get a complete set of athlete training plans. The plans need to be focused on the 4 basic athletic ability areas that are endurance, speed, power, and agility. They also need to be focused on the 5 basic components of conditioning which are running, eating, lifting, stretching, and recovering. This is how to get the optimal results from any training plan.
